Bio

Hi I’m Lochie, a passionate drummer, teacher, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter.

Since winning the Billy Hyde International Drum Play Offs at age 13 as well as Sydney Battle of the Bands in the same year I’ve spent the last 17 years performing, recording and touring with over 30 bands across Australia, Japan, the US, the UK and Europe. I’ve released 3 albums of my own music and collaborated on countless more. Learning drums and making music has made life more fun than I could have imagined and helped me connect with so many of my favourite people in my home town of Sydney and around the world, including the chance to work with artists who have inspired me – and there’s nothing better to me than sharing that same opportunity with others!

Over the past 12 years I’ve been developing a world of fun, well-rounded and creative educational techniques to help people of all ages and skill levels achieve their musical goals.

I’ve had a lot of proud moments through my teaching career – seeing students excel in the studio, on stage and create and release their own music and music videos.

I’ve also developed ‘Beat Missions’ (a drumming Video Game) and pioneered ‘Heirs to the Tone’: A live music event where students get to perform their favourite music with professional musicians and get paid for it!

Whether you’re interested in taking your music career to the next level, keen to learn skills to connect with other musicians, want to learn how to play your favourite songs or just curious to feel what it’s like to play the drums, I’d love to share whatever I have to help you on your musical journey!

Teaching Info

Lessons are taught in The Confectionary Recording Studio in Newtown or at your home or location of choice. There’s a strong focus on fun and connecting the drums to things in life that students are most interested in – so lessons are super tailored to get the best out of students and make things click quick.

Using the facilities at the studio and almost 2 decades experience in the international music industry, you can expect a lot of versatility in lesson content and a huge scope of direction for where you want to take your drumming journey.

Also if you’re looking to connect with others in the music scene or other students to collaborate with, there’s a big focus on bridging connections between artists at Lochie Earl Drum Lessons!

Lochie is one of those rare all rounders - talented as a drummer, musician, performer and teacher. I had the luck of being one of his drumming students for over a year. During that year I developed a passion for drumming and some life long skills to appreciate, read and create music. Lochie's passion is contagious, his patience has no end and he adapts his teaching to suit you and what you want out of the lessons. I can't recommend him enough

I started my musical journey with Lochie Earl and I have progressed at a phenomenal pace thanks to his expertise. Lochie is incredibly capable at all fields from reading and writing sheet music with 1:1 accuracy to explaining advanced techniques in a concise way. Lochie does not only play drums but he masters a wide range of musical instruments that can give you context of what you are playing, which is a great advantage. Overall, you will be extremely pleased and skilled after choosing Lochie Earl as your teacher.

Lochie has been instrumental in inspiring my son Jay to not only learn to play drums but also have a love for music and an understanding of the layers of songs. He goes above and beyond in making the lessons fun, yet still challenging Jay to improve. The way he treats youngsters with the same respect and engagement as he would with adults is a rare treat. I can’t recommend him highly enough.
