Bio
Kingsgrove Music has been servicing the musical needs of the local and surrounding communities since its establishment in 1955.
Location
The desire to provide enhanced studio comfort and broaden the musical activities of the school resulted in Kingsgrove Music relocating to Bexley in late 2010.

The Owners
The Turner family are proud to continue the long tradition of Kingsgrove Music in providing excellence in music teaching.
Within the family, there is a strong tradition of academic excellence, educational leadership, and privileged musical education via The Conservatorium High School, St Andrew’s Cathedral School, the Australian Institute of Music and the University of NSW.
In recent years the family have undertaken two European Music Tours in conjunction with St Andrew’s Cathedral School, having the opportunity to perform in venues of international renown throughout Europe.

The Philosophy of the Kingsgrove Music
The following statements summarise the underpinning philosophy of Kingsgrove Music as we work to serve local families and the community:
music should accessible to all people (hence the fee structure has been designed to assist families access music tuition and is below the Music Teachers Association recommended fee level)

music should not cause stress – it is equally legitimate to study music for pleasure and relaxation as it is to formalise study via the examination process

The Educational Benefits of a Music Education
There is a vast amount of literature that provides evidence of the educational advantages that musical experiences and training provides to the child.
In summary, all aspects of the child’s development are impacted upon. That is, music offers the opportunity to facilitate a child’s physical, intellectual, social, emotional, language and musical development. For this reason, Kingsgrove Music particularly seeks to provide musical programs for children with special needs, and for infants, toddlers and preschoolers. Our early childhood programs take advantage of the child’s natural instinct to play whilst introducing them to the concepts of music, movement, singing, and dance.
Our before-school music program reflects an eclectic combination of concepts from Zoltan Kodaly, Karl Orff and Shinichi Suzuki.
Musical education has been found to enhance creativity; problem-solving; fine motor coordination; and eye-hand coordination.
Other life skills (and subsequently employability skills in later life) assisted by music study include: self-confidence; team work; ability to follow instructions and ability to lead; enhanced focus and concentration; goal setting; and communication skills.
Our Teachers
Susan Turner
Susan is the Principal of Kingsgrove Music and is the first point of contact for parents, students and teachers.
Susan’s father was a gifted pianist and she followed in his footsteps, receiving a scholarship to study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. However, Susan pursued other pathways, studying in Australia and overseas.
Susan holds qualifications in nursing, midwifery, early childhood health, remedial massage, clinical hypnotherapy, education and psychology. Her principal area of study for her Masters of Education was educational psychology. This lifetime of learning and experience ensures that Kingsgrove Music provides a supportive, nurturing environment for teachers, students and their families.
Bronwyn-Jane “Bronnie” Hammond
Bronnie’s music studies commenced formally at the age of 6. Whilst her first instrument was violin, Bronnie also excelled at piano. She studied with The Conservatorium Access Program before attending the Conservatorium of Music High School for years 7 to 9. In year 10, Bronnie transferred to St Andrew’s Cathedral School as a music scholar where she had the opportunity to participate in a European music tour.
Her performance experience includes numerous musicals, Showcase Performances at Angel Place, and lunchtime concerts in St Andrew’s Cathedral. She has also performed in various choirs, symphony and chamber orchestras.
Bronnie holds a Bachelor of Music in Classical Performance (Violin) and a Graduate Diploma in Secondary Education. She also holds a Certificate III in Children’s Services and therefore has the knowledge and skills to facilitate learning of children from 0 to age 12. Bronnie has demonstrated a talent for working with children with special needs and has recently undertaken an introductory course in AUSLAN.
In 2011, Bronnie was appointed as the inaugural conductor for the Southern Sydney Youth Music Association, an initiative supported by a grant from the Arts Council and which gave the ensemble students the opportunity to perform in a concert at the Sydney Opera House.
Chris Turner
Chris’ music studies commenced at an early age. His first instrument was violin and is an instrument for which he maintains an enduring passion. Piano soon followed and Chris rapidly excelled. In later years, Chris ventured into saxophone and guitar, and continues to experiment with a variety of instruments.
Chris studied with The Conservatorium Access Program before becoming a music scholar at St Andrew’s Cathedral School. It was during his years at St Andrews that Chris undertook two European music tours, as well as performing in school productions of Guys and Dolls, The Pirates of Penzance, Les Misérables, and John English’s opera Paris.
Chris’ university program included undergraduate study in Music, Criminology and Psychology. He subsequently completed a graduate LLB. During his time at university, Chris was a member of the University of NSW orchestra, and Concert Master of the Macquarie University orchestra.
Chris was awarded the Simon Tedeschi prize for Musical Excellence. He was awarded first place in the 2015 Ryde Eisteddfod in both the solo violin and violin duo categories. Chris has also excelled academically receiving the NSW Bar Association Prize for Indigenous Law and the Macquarie Law School Prize for Litigation. Chris has a keen interest in social justice and human rights.
Teaching Info
Kingsgrove music is an independently operated music school catering for students who wish to undertake private study in music education. We offer a wide choice of instruments that may be studied from beginner to advanced levels and for fun. We are dedicated to enriching the lives of others through the enjoyment of learning music.
Our teaching staff are constantly striving to find new and exciting ways to enhance the students learning process. Students are guided along a path that is specifically designed to suit their musical needs and ensure they reach their full potential.

Lessons are held once a week in half hour sessions. Generally, as students progress, they will transition to 45 or 60 minute lessons. All of our classes are private one on one tuition. Small group lessons are available for HSC Music 1 and 2 students, and for seniors.
